Natural Beauty for Our Microbes
We not only have microbes in our gut but we also have them living on our skin and from what I can tell they both have an impact on each other. If we do things to impact our skin microbes such as using personal care products that contain chemicals it also impacts our gut microbes negatively.
Keeping this in mind it is important to treat our skin microbes as well as our gut microbes so we can all live happy healthy lives. That said, we need to pay attention to all the things that come in contact with our skin to include lotions, potions, cosmetics, hair care products and cleaning products.
Considering all the products you use is a little overwhelming since typically that ranges from 5 to 15 products. Can you imagine how your skin feels when it has to deal with all those products? Also imagine that those products have a few chemicals in each of them. Adding all the products times the number of chemicals makes your skin have to work even harder to support happy protective microbes.
Those same chemicals can seep into the skin and impact the gut microbes for a dual side effect. Not only has your skin microbiome been compromised so has your gut microbiome. Not all is lost – the nice thing about microbes is that they can bounce back if you start treating them better and stop assaulting them with harmful products.
How can you start to change your personal care routine to better support your skin and gut microbes? Start by picking one or two personal care items that you can live without. Then start looking for all natural solutions such as those found at the following companies:
Living Libations – You can find personal care items such as shampoo, conditioner, moisturizer to products for your teeth as well as natural perfume and cologne.
W3LL PEOPLE – You can find a variety of cosmetics to create your own look.
rms beauty – You can find a beauty oil and raw coconut cream along with a variety of cosmetics.
If you like do it yourself projects you can make some of your own personal care products such as lip balm, salves, toothpaste, deodorant, moisturizer, and dry shampoo. You can find recipes online or I have some in my book Kaizen. I also include simple recipes for household cleaning products.
