Cherry Smoothie for Gut Health

I have a cherry tree in my yard and for the first couple years I lived in the house the tree did not bear much fruit and what fruit it bore, the squirrels ate. This last year the conditions were perfect and the tree bore a ton of cherries. We ended up with several bags of cherries and even gave a couple away to family members.

With all these cherries came ides for their use. I added some to chocolate cake, threw some in my fruit breakfast bowls, and stewed some with apples. I managed to use up a couple of bags of cherries and was ready for a new use for them. Wanting a lite lunch one day, I decided to use some of the cherries for a smoothie.

Cherries are a wonderful fruit to support your liver. Being that your liver is constantly bombarded by toxins it’s important to eat foods that support the liver and help it function optimally. The liver is partial to red colored fruits so eat more cherries for better liver function and gut health.

Cherry Smoothie for Gut Health

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups frozen cherries
  • 2 frozen banana
  • 1 – 2 cups coconut water
  • 3 dates, pitted and chopped

Instructions

  1. Put all ingredients in the blender, blend until smooth and serve

Notes

Fruit does not need to be frozen if you don’t want a slushy like smoothie. If you’d like a chocolate cherry smoothie you can add 2 tablespoons of raw cacao powder
